Pen-y-bryn Lodge

Pen-y-bryn Lodge is a luxury boutique lodge located in the historic gourmet town of Oamaru on New Zealand’s South Island.

Situated between Christchurch and Dunedin on the Pacific Coast, Oamaru is an ideal place for a weekend getaway or as part of a South Island itinerary, and offers scenery and attractions that are unique in New Zealand.

As New Zealand’s best-preserved historic town, Oamaru revels in its lengthy and illustrious history, and nowhere is this more evident than at Pen-y-bryn Lodge, an 1889 mansion that now affords discerning guests an opportunity to experience the opulence and grandeur of the height of the Victorian age. With just five individually appointed guest rooms, and numerous grand public spaces, Pen-y-bryn affords its guests a degree of service and privacy unequalled elsewhere.

Dining is an integral part of the Pen-y-bryn experience, with all our guests enjoying a sumptuous breakfast in the morning and a lavish selection of canapés in the evening, along with a complimentary glass of wine from the nearby Waitaki Valley (New Zealand’s newest wine region). Many of our guests also choose to dine with us, enjoying a tailor-made gourmet  table d’hôte menu that combines the outstanding produce of the surrounding area (much even grown on the Pen-y-bryn grounds) with styles and techniques from around the world. As a member of la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs since 1999 in Northen Virginia, Beijing and now New Zealand, Pen-y-bryn’s chef-owner James Glucksman takes pride in making everything served from scratch and in-house, so guests are assured a truly gourmet experience.

Pen-y-bryn is an ideal spot to relax and unwind, and is an excellent base from which to explore the nature, culture, and history of this beautiful corner of New Zealand.
